If you get a toothache, it may be difficult to find a dentist that you are comfortable with. In addition, you may need to find one that accepts your insurance. Your best bet is to get a referral from your family or friends. If that is not an option, you can always look for one on the Internet.
In the case of an accident where you lose a tooth, you need to save any of the loose fragments, and bring it to your dentist as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the less likely your dentist can fix it. You can take the tooth to the dentist by following these tips. Try to place the tooth back in the mouth where it fell out, so it is level with other teeth. Bite down gently on gauze or a wet tea bag to help keep it in place. Be careful not to swallow the tooth. If you cannot perform the steps above, place the tooth in a container and cover with a small amount of whole milk. The tooth can also be carried between the lower lip and lower gum, or under the tongue.
An emergency dentist may also be found by going to the closest hospital emergency department. An emergency dentist may be on staff. If not, you will receive enough care to make your condition stable, until you can see a dentist.
No matter the reason, and how you find the dentist, do not hesitate to contact one if you are in need of urgent dental care because the longer you wait, the worse your problem can get.
