Tips For Helping A Teething Baby

Teething describes the eruption of baby teeth, also called primary teeth, pushing through the gums into the mouth. Teething generally starts at around 6 to 7 months of age, but there can be variations. Some babies may have their first teeth in as early as three months, or after twelve months. The symptoms of teething can occur up to two or three months before the teeth actually appear in the mouth. Your child will have all twenty of their primary or baby teeth by the age of three.

Child brushing teethMost of us know that baby teeth eventually become loose and fall out without much effort. However, there are times when a baby tooth becomes loose prematurely or too early. Baby teeth (milk teeth) become loose, and naturally, fall out to make room for the permanent adult teeth. Baby teeth become loose due to trauma to injury as well. Dental decay or cavities cause loose baby teeth as well.

child showing teethBaby teeth are also referred to as primary teeth by dental professionals. For most babies, the baby teeth begin to come in or erupt into the mouth at around six years of age. A total of twenty primary teeth are present in the mouth by thirty-three months of age. The eruption times may vary by a few months, but that is still considered within normal limits. Shedding of primary teeth begins around the ages of six or seven years old. For most people, all of their baby teeth will have completely shed by age twelve.
