The safety of dental x-rays is a common concern of patients. The American and Canadian dental associations have guidelines for dental professionals to follow to make them as safe as possible. There is a general principle in radiation safety called ALARA – as low as reasonably achievable. Dental professionals use the lowest possible dose and to limit exposure whenever possible to be able to treat patients safely and efficiently.
